From the bride…we kicked off the reception with tequila shots for all immediately following the ceremony. Along with the mariachi ending at the end of the ceremony, I think this really set the tone for the remainder of the evening as we paraded to the reception area with the mariachi leading the way.
Dinner and reception were held in the courtyard of Maynard’s Market & Kitchen. We initially had a hard time finding a venue because we really wanted something outdoors but still elegant and non-traditional but also wanted really amazing food. Maynard’s truly combined all of that for us and we were so happy with our decision.
Both the restaurant and the train station let us borrow these antique carts previously used for carrying passenger luggage in the old days of the train depot. Colleen and her team at Atelier LaFleur created and styled them with amazing garlands, florals, and antique bronze and glass pieces that had been collected for months. The dessert cart was filled with fall fruits and a fondant cake made by a friend of ours.
Dinner tables were decorated with florals in antique bronze and yellow glass pieces, lit by candlelight and hanging lanterns above.
The mariachi played through cocktail hour and the rest of the evening was filled with live music followed by plenty of dancing to the musical styling of our favorite DJ Herm.
The party continued into the night with more dancing, laughs and a lot of love.
Check out the wedding video put together by Everett Mitchell & Marie Seville! And here’s Part 1 of Akiko and Michael’s wedding in case you missed it!
We’re so excited to finally share photos from our very own Akiko and her marriage to Michael in beautiful downtown Tucson. The couple spent a weekend with all their loved ones at The Hotel Congress and all over downtown, the perfect location for several days of fun, food and family. The ceremony was held across the street at The Historic Train Depot followed by dinner and plenty of dancing in the courtyard of Maynard’s Market + Kitchen. There’s so much to share, we’ve decided to make this a 2 part post complete with all the details photographed by the amazing team of Purple Nickel on their special day…
From the bride…We went back and forth a lot in planning between Mexico and my hometown of Tucson, Arizona but finally decided on Tucson because of its historic appeal and our love of the desert. I wanted our wedding to reflect our esthetics and also bring out the bohemian beauty of the desert and vintage feel of downtown. It really ended up being the best location for us since our families were able to join in on the multiple festivities we had over the weekend from our welcome party to our day-after brunch all in the same area. The historic Hotel Congress made for a great backdrop for pictures and libations through out our stay there.
We both tend to be drawn to navy so we wanted to make sure there was plenty of it when choosing a color scheme and accented it with creams, deep reds for fall and my favorite color of all time: mustard yellow. The groomsmen all wore navy, while the bridesmaids wore mis-matched Adrianna Papell dresses of their choice. I must say helping the girls find their dresses was one of my favorite parts! My dress was a mermaid fit Zac Posen Bridal gown that I fell in love with when I tried on because of its romantic details and fitted silhouette.
Our flowers were part labor of love from team bride + friends and part gorgeous styling by Atelier LaFleur who’s team also put together our amazing garlands which you will see next week in Part 2! I chose a combination or dahlias, creme roses, dark purple scabiosa, black millet, eucalyptus, fern and more to go with our dark, fall theme.
The gentlemen, including our precious ring bearer (our son), wore their own variations of navy suits. The groomsmen spent the morning getting ready with plenty of cheers including a special treat of Pappy Van Winkle’s at Maynard’s and a fresh shave by our barber friend for the groom.
Stay tuned next week of the ceremony and reception photos plus a video from our best day ever!
Thamzen and Charles exchanged vows on the Boojum Patio at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Their beautiful and intimate wedding reception was filled with smiles, happiness and lots of laughter! A sweet smelling desert monsoon shared the evening and gave guests the perfect desert experience. It was our pleasure to help Thamzen on her wedding day and bring together all the DIY details she spent countless hours creating. Most of the planning was done from afar with her mom Darlene in living in Puerto Rico and details were crucial. For Thamzen’s wedding flowers, she had visioned an elegant rose bouquet with a desert touch and shades of cream and burgundy. Congratulations Thamzen and Charles, we wish you life long happiness and love!
Emily and Tim are counting the days to wedded bliss! These two are beyond adorable, I mean just look how Tim has Emily smiling in that first photo!! Amanda captured their love perfectly. We are thrilled to be helping them plan their November 7th wedding to be held at Agua Linda Farm!
Thank you Emily and Tim for sharing these and we can NOT wait for you wedding day! <3
A bit from the bride Inspiration style: “I spent a lot of time thinking about it and what best describes our wedding style is simple and elegant We will have a lot of soft/neutrals will a few pops of color here and there. I want it to feel and look natural (farm tables, wooden wire wheel cake table, etc.) yet fancy and fun! Our wedding will be held at Agua Linda Farm and it was important to both of us that we have an outdoor ceremony and reception. Being in an open, beautiful space is where we both feel at home – connected to one another.” – Emily
Today we’re excited to share these lovely engagement photos from Soiree Bride-to-be Emera and her fiance John. These two love birds will tie the knot on October 24th of this year in Phoenix, Arizona and we are so lucky to be a part of it! Their engagement shoot is a true representation of their style and we can’t wait to share the details of their amazing warehouse wedding we are helping plan.
We love the desert setting they chose for their photos, combined with such chic elements and that DRESS! Kudos to Monique Hessler Photography for capturing these beautiful moments…And just in time for Valentine’s Day we thought it would be perfect to share not only their photoshoot but also their sweet engagement story. Big thanks to Emera for sharing the love. Enjoy!!
“John and I planned a couple’s getaway to Maui last October of 2013. The weekend before
our trip, we hosted a dinner at our home for my family. My mom came over with enough food to feed
our entire neighborhood, which should have been a red flag, however being Filipino we do not cook
less than bulk! In the middle of dinner, John excused himself from the table but never returned. From
our back yard, I heard “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum playing and I instantly knew what was
about to happen! What I did not know is that John had invited a few of our close friends to be a part of
our proposal! Holding candlesticks, as well as tears, we all listened to my wonderful soon-to-be fiancé
express his love and ask me to marry him! Those close to us who lived far away were able to watch
the entire proposal via Facetime. My now maid of honor also put together a video for us which
incorporated messages from other friends and family sending their well wishes. I could not have
dreamt of a more perfect proposal!” – Emera
